At ByuTech, we build AI-native tools that respect your data. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how we protect it.
Data We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account or purchase our apps, we collect your name, email address, and payment information processed through Apple's App Store.
Usage Analytics
We collect anonymized usage data — feature interactions, session duration, and crash reports — to improve product quality. This data cannot identify you personally.
On-Device Processing
Products like TransPeek perform OCR and translation 100% on-device using Apple's Vision framework. No screen content, images, or recognized text ever leaves your device.
Voice Data
Keyfree transmits audio to cloud AI for transcription. Audio is processed in real-time and is not stored by ByuTech.
AI Assistant Conversations
Conversations with our AI Assistant are processed by Anthropic's Claude API. We do not store conversation history on our servers. Refer to Anthropic's privacy policy for details on their data handling.
PinYing — What You Type
Chinese Input Stays On Your Mac
PinYing's Chinese pinyin input runs entirely on your Mac using the open-source Rime engine. What you type is never uploaded, and your user dictionary and word frequencies are stored locally in ~/Library/PinYingIME.
English Rewrites
In PinYing's English mode, only the sentence currently in the input buffer is sent. When you pay with PinYing credits it is relayed through our server (byutech.cn, hosted on Alibaba Cloud in mainland China) to DeepSeek for rewriting and continuation; our server records usage, not the content of your sentences. If you use your own DeepSeek key, the sentence goes directly to DeepSeek without passing through our server, and the key is stored only in your device keychain — we never obtain it.
When Nothing Is Sent
PinYing sends nothing while ASCII lock is on (double-tap Shift), while macOS secure input is active (password fields, or secure keyboard entry in Terminal), or when you are not signed in or out of credits without your own key.
Typing Rhythm
To decide when to ask for a rewrite, PinYing records the time between consecutive keystrokes within a sentence — timings only, never which keys. These stay on your device, are capped at 2,000 entries, are deleted after 24 hours, and are never uploaded.
Account, Credits and Payment
Signing in to PinYing on macOS uses WeChat, from which we receive your openid, unionid, nickname and avatar. We store a locally generated device ID, your credit balance, gift and purchase records, and WeChat Pay order details. PinYing has no crash reporting, no advertising and no third-party analytics SDKs.

How We Use Your Data

Encryption
All data transmitted between your device and our services is encrypted using TLS 1.3. Data at rest is encrypted using AES-256.
Minimal Retention
We retain personal data only as long as necessary to provide our services. You can request deletion at any time.
Infrastructure
Our backend services are hosted on industry-standard cloud platforms with SOC 2 compliance.

Third-Party Services
Apple App Store
In-app purchases and subscriptions are handled by Apple. See Apple's privacy policy for details.
AI Providers
Keyfree and PinYing use third-party AI APIs — PinYing's English rewrites are processed by DeepSeek. Each provider's privacy policy governs data processed through their services.
PinYing for macOS uses WeChat sign-in and WeChat Pay. Tencent processes that sign-in and payment under its own privacy policy; we never see your bank or card details.
Analytics
We use privacy-focused analytics tools that do not track individual users across apps or websites.
